Although the mud around your feet isn't warm, it has a pleasant consistency, and if you walk back and forth it's like getting a massage… a strange way to pass the time in a ghostly swamp, but better than panicking. You don't like to panic, because you know that dreams get confusing, and increasingly scary, when that happens.
If you pay close attention to the world around you, after a while you see that something is moving: they are long shadows that slither through the branches of the trees, a bit like very fast snakes; they twist around each other, cross each other, and then disappear as quickly as they appeared.
In dreams, even the fauna sometimes makes no sense. But this, you've realized, might not be a dream at all.
You have three choices before you:
2. Climb one of the trees and try to figure out what these creatures are
3. Ignore the shadow-snakes completely
